Opening soon, Blaby Alternative Provision will provide a high-quality, short- to medium-term educational placement for young people who require additional support to re-engage with learning.
Our aim is simple: to provide the right support, at the right time, helping students overcome barriers to education and successfully transition back into full-time education or move confidently to their next educational pathway.
Alternative Provision plays an increasingly important role within the education system, offering flexible, personalised support for children and young people whose needs cannot currently be met within a mainstream setting. Recent government reforms continue to highlight the importance of early intervention, inclusive practice and providing the right support before needs escalate. (House of Commons Library)
Our Vision
At The Lady Byron School, we believe that every young person deserves the opportunity to succeed.
Blaby Alternative Provision will provide a therapeutic, nurturing environment where students are supported to rebuild confidence, improve attendance, develop positive relationships and re-engage with education.
Our provision will combine:

Every placement will have a clearly defined purpose, with measurable outcomes and regular review points to ensure students are making positive progress.
Who is the Provision For?
The provision is intended for students who may be experiencing barriers to accessing education, including:
- Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA)
- Anxiety and emotionally based needs
- Autism and neurodiversity
- Difficulties engaging in mainstream education
- Students requiring a phased reintegration
- Young people needing a short-term therapeutic educational placement
Each referral will be considered individually to ensure that the provision is appropriate for both the student and the existing cohort.
Flexible Provision
Students will normally access the provision for up to three days per week, with education remaining the responsibility of their home school unless otherwise agreed.
During their placement, students will access elements of the wider Blaby Curriculum Offer, tailored to their individual needs and outcomes. This may include:

- Personal Development
- Emotional Literacy
- Employability Skills
- Food Technology
- Outdoor Learning
- Vocational Learning
- Creative Arts
- Physical Wellbeing
- Independence and Life Skills
The curriculum will be carefully personalised to complement the student’s existing educational programme and support successful reintegration.
A Clear Journey
Every placement will include:
- A clear referral process
- Defined entry criteria
- Individual learning and wellbeing targets
- Regular review meetings
- Close communication with parents, carers and professionals
- Planned transition arrangements
- Clear exit criteria and intended outcomes
Our goal is not simply to provide education for a period of time, but to equip every student with the confidence, skills and resilience needed to move successfully into their next stage of learning.

We work closely with schools, local authorities, parents, carers and other professionals to ensure every student receives consistent support and a coordinated plan that puts their needs first.
