Inspections

Membership of the Independent Schools Association

The Lady Byron School is proud to be a full member of the Independent Schools Association (ISA). As part of this membership, independent schools are inspected by the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI), the body approved by the Department for Education to inspect independent schools in England.

Following our most recent Ofsted inspection, we have made the decision that future inspections of the school will be carried out by the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI).

ISI inspections evaluate schools against the Independent School Standards, focusing on the quality of education, pupils’ wellbeing and personal development, and the effectiveness of leadership and management.

Ofsted Inspection – June 2025

We are delighted that The Lady Byron School was judged Good in all areas in our most recent Ofsted inspection (June 2025).

Inspectors recognised the strong relationships, personalised support and ambitious education provided for our pupils. The report highlights the school’s commitment to ensuring that every pupil is valued as an individual and supported to succeed.

A nurturing and supportive environment

Inspectors found that relationships across the school are a key strength:

“Positive relationships sit at the heart of everything that the school does.”

Staff take time to understand each pupil as an individual, developing a detailed understanding of their strengths, interests and needs. This enables teaching and support to be carefully tailored so that pupils feel safe, understood and confident.

Helping pupils achieve and thrive

The report recognises the school’s ambition for every pupil to succeed from their starting points.

“The school is determined for pupils, from their starting points, to achieve highly. This aim is realised.”

The curriculum is carefully designed to meet the needs of the pupils the school serves. Learning builds on pupils’ prior experiences and interests, helping them to stay engaged and make strong progress.

Supporting understanding and confidence

The school supports pupils to develop confidence and a positive understanding of themselves.

“The school helps pupils to understand their autism. It helps pupils to realise that ‘autism is a strength, not a weakness’.”

This approach helps pupils develop self-awareness and resilience, preparing them well for life beyond school.

Positive behaviour and strong community

Inspectors observed that pupils behave well and build positive relationships with one another. A strong sense of community is created through shared activities, recognition and celebration of achievements.

Pupils enjoy earning house tokens and being recognised in assemblies, with rewards such as trips and celebrations helping to motivate and encourage positive behaviour.

Preparing pupils for life beyond school

The report highlights the school’s strong focus on personal development. Pupils learn how to understand and manage their social, emotional and mental health through tailored programmes.

The school’s “BRIGHT Days” enrich the curriculum further, giving pupils opportunities to learn about cultures, people and current events from around the world.

These experiences help pupils develop the knowledge, confidence and skills they need for the future.
